The Seasonal League System is a tournament league that encompasses seasonal tournaments in Arcanists 2. It operates on a system of promotion and relegation, with players being relegated or promoted to another division based on their performance each season. The league typically operates multiple, separate divisional tournaments in each season concurrently, with the tournaments concluding around the same time.
Foundation[]
The Seasonal League System began from Season 16 onwards. Previously, seasonal tournaments involved open sign-ups, and pitted everyone who signed up against each other, typically in a bracket setting. As Arcanists 2 grew in player base size, resulting in more players signing up for tournaments gradually, a number of issues in tournament organization appeared as a result of this, culminating in the need for a new tournament system.
Format[]
Tournament categories[]
There are three categories of tournaments in the seasonal league system, mainly divided by time settings: 30s+, 20s-, and random spells. The separation of categories makes it so players can be in different divisions for each category based on how well they perform in different settings.
Promotion and relegation[]
A system of promotion and relegation exists between the divisions. Upon the conclusion of each season, players may be promoted to a higher division, or relegated to a lower division, based on their tournament performance.
Divisions[]
There are currently two divisions in the seasonal league system: Division 1 and Division 2. The current player ordering for the divisions are as follows:
Tournament Elo[]
Main Article: Tournament Elo
Tournament Elo is a quantitative metric aimed to measure a player's skill compared to other players in Arcanists 2 tournaments. It is loosely based off of the Elo system used in Chess. Players start out with 1000 rating, which increases and decreases as tournament games are played. Only official Arcanists 2 seasonal tournaments affect tournament elo; third-party tournaments and other games of Arcanists played do not affect it. The changes in players' ratings depends on the match results and on their ratings before the match is played. Winning tournament games increases a players' rating, while losing tournament games, and in some cases, disqualifications from a tournament, result in a players' rating being decreased. Each player has a different elo in each of the three tournament categories. Currently, the main usage of tournament elo in the tournament creation process is seeding for division 1 players.
